EXCLUSIVE: Le Pacte has closed a number of offers for Left-Handed Woman, Shih-Ching Tsou’s Taiwanese drama that premiered in Critics’ Week at Cannes and is produced by Anora director Sean Baker.

The movie has been acquired for Italy (I Marvel Photos), Spain (Avalon), Benelux (September Movie), Japan (Starcat), South Korea (The Coup Distribution), Poland (So Movies), Scandinavia (Selmer Media), Hong Kong (Golden Scene), Baltics (Kino Pavasaris), Greece (Cinobo) and Israel (New Cinema).

It follows a deal introduced yesterday with Netflix, which scooped up rights for many of the world together with North America and the UK.

The story follows a single mom and her two daughters who return to Taipei from the countryside to open a meals stall in a bustling evening market. As they navigate the chaos of their new life, long-buried household secrets and techniques start to floor, difficult generational norms and unstated expectations.

It marks the solo directorial debut for Tsou, recognized for her longtime collaboration with Oscar-winning filmmaker Baker on options together with Take Out, Starlet, Tangerine, The Florida Mission and Pink Rocket.

Baker, who additionally co-wrote and edited the movie, produces with Mike Goodridge at UK’s Good Chaos, Tsou by way of Taiwan’s Left-Handed Woman Movie Manufacturing, and Jean Labadie and Alice Labadie at France’s Le Pacte. Le Pacte can also be dealing with the French launch and worldwide sales.
